 The Ecological Benefits of "Handmade in Canada"
The term "handmade" means different things in different industries. For a sewn product like a Dear Lil' Devas item, handmade means made by one person from start to finish.
The way our sewing is set up is a small-scale, non-factory version of the Lean manufacturing concept pioneered by the Toyota Motor Company. This process, which can also be called "one-piece flow", allows Dear Lil' Devas to avoid waste by producing products to order in a well-organized, efficient manner.
The ecological benefits of this method are substantial. In fact, we would go as far as to say that our method of production is the primary contributor to our environmental sustainability, not our use of eco-textiles (although they are lovely). With very little waste and no overproduction we have a very small eco-footprint.
